300 RUM

I have just recently purchased a Remington 700 police 300 RUM . It has had work done to it . It has had the action trued and beded. My question is for ammo. I have not jumped into reloading yet but will have too for this beast. Does anyone have experience with factory ammo for distance shooting? I have looked at hornady 220 precision hunter but haven't shot any. Any help would be great.

The first advice you will get is to pick up as many reloading manuals as you can find. Should be a good amount of data on the .300 RUM. Not quite as mush as .308 or .300 Win Mag but still pretty common.

I had a 700 300 RUM and man did that thing kick like a mule. I sold it about 7 years ago or so but I have 20 or so rounds laying around. Let me know if you want them and I can get them to ya.

Well unfortunately even if someone else shot one ammo really well it may shoot like poo in your rifle. You just gotta try different rounds to find what your gun likes.

Now we can narrow it down a little bit for you. For shooting paper as far as possible you know you want match grade ammo. That also means you want a target grade bullet. For the 300 the Sierra Match Kings, Berger bullets or Hornady ELDs would be some of the best choices. I'd find factory match that using those bullets and buy a box of each and go from there.

At $60.00+ per box it's going to get real expensive real fast. I shoot a 300 RUM but mines used entirely for hunting, if for some reason I wanted to punch paper or ring steel I have lots of other stuff to use out to 1,000 yards that's a lot more forgiving on me and my wallet than a RUM. Good luck

A good hunting buddy of mine has a Rem 700 in 300 RUM as well with similar work done to it.
He has had great results with Nosler Factory ammo (Sub MOA @ 100 yrds)
His gun did not like the those ELDX projectiles tho. His groups went ip to 3” at a hundred. He has barely started to reload for it as well.

I would say try a box of some Nosler Trophy Grade 180 gr.

Buy the best dies you can afford.
