    Lehigh Defense Ammo?

Not sure if this is the right section, but here goes..

A friend gifted me with a box of 9mm ammo called Lehigh Defense, a 90 grain defensive round with the bullet tip shaped in an 'x' pattern or the tip of a phillips head screwdriver. Upon doing some research on their site, they displayed some interesting looking ammo for different purposes, but hard to find any real data that's not on behalf of the company, so it's been difficult to tell if they're really onto something or if it's just fancy PR.

I'm aware of the advancements made in ammo tech, especially for the 9mm, but I'm curious if anybody has had any real experience with these rounds? I'm a little hesitant since the last person I know tested a "newer bullet" (G2 R.I.P rounds) in his Glock, it had major feeding problems and actually damaged some of the internal parts. So, yeah...trying to avoid that if possible.

Any advice/feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have been carrying the Extreme Defender loaded by Underwood Ammo for more than a year now. Lehigh Defence makes the bullet and cartridges are commercially available thru both Lehigh and Underwood. I have shot several boxes of the Extreme Defender and Extreme Penetrator thru my 9 Shield without a problem. It makes a really nice hole in paper.

You may want to investigate some Youtube videos. For example, the MAC channel (Military Arms Channel) has at least a couple of videos where he tests some Lehigh Underwood ammo, and compares it to other popular brands of ammo with regard to penetration, etc. If I recall, he was testing 9mm, 9+, and +9+. He ultimately concluded that the Underwood ammo was the best, and that the +P+ was the best of the best.

I remember seeing a video of shooting bullet proof glass using Lehigh 180gr I belive .. out of 10mm . it was pretty shocking seeing outcome of it . I'm pretty sure it can do some damages even with 9mm if loaded right . I grabbed a box from lehigh and copied underwood spec just because . but I have not yet test with it tho .

I've looked on youtube but it's been hard finding one that's legitimate and testing the 90gr defensive 9mm round. On Lehigh's site, they display different types of ammo in different designs, bullet types, etc. (defensive/penetrator/cavitator/etc..) so a lot of the videos I've found use a mix of their variants, just not the one I'm looking for. I'll check out the MAC channel and see if I can find anything. Thanks.

*to everyone else, thanks for your two cents!

G2 RIP is junk. The Lehigh rounds are the real thing for penetration; They are not a gimmick. They go through most things unscathed, taking a concrete block to even mis-shape them.
Other than the massive popularity of the 9mm Parabellum round, the metric system never really caught on here...

Agreed. The G2 rounds looked cool, but just beyond awful performance. I've yet to try out the Lehigh rounds, but the videos I've seen that aren't put out by the company or a sponsor, have been pretty damn impressive.

Be a great 4 legged defense but for 2 legged defense i want a good expanding bullet vs something thats gonna fly fly right thru someone.

Like previously posted, G2 is absolute poop, not enough penetration for all those fragments to do any damage. Lehigh is a brass projecticle (well most are brass) that will hold it's shape through barriers but will dump it's energy in soft tissue. Check out youtube for ballistic gel testing and you'll see for yourself the cavity it creates.

I have been and you're right about the cavity it creates. That's what really interested me. The 9mm created consistent cavities comparable to a size made by a .45 in all the videos with huge penetration, but not so much force that it would continue to travel much downrange if happened to shoot through. Pretty impressed and can't wait to try them out soon.
