Velocity check please-RL15 with 77gr SMK.

I've started looking for the best powder/bullet combo in my 16 inch mid length AR.
Due to the temperature variance here (yearly lows in the 30's, highs above 105) I'm starting with stick powders.

Today was the first run. 77gr SMK with RL 15 between 21.7 and 24.4gr.
    At 21.7 I was clocking 2325, with 24.4 I got as high as 2692 (2670 average).

Seems I have an accuracy node between 22.0 and 22.6 grains, with another developing at 24.1+.
If those velocities look safe I'll push it above 24.4, as my brass looks fine. The max listed by the manufacturer was 24.1 but hey, the rifle seems to like it hot.

    Running on the highside is something I do frequently.With 24.5gr,LCbrass,REM 7 1/2 primers ,I'm looking for velocity around 2800fps from a 20".
Take a look at Varget, it will handle the extremes better than RL15.

I have charge weight tests loaded for Varget and IMR 8208 XBR.
I meant to shoot 8208 today but I grabbed the wrong ammo box lol

Once you find something that works to your satisfaction, stick with it!Experimenting with loads is a pain, and you end up with odds and ends.Ive experimented with RL15 and found it to be a little inconsistent,IMR4895 worked great with similar velocities as Varget with the same charge.N140 is another good one ,but costs more.

In a National Match Wylde chamber 20" barrel I get 2675 fps avg. with 24.1 grains of Reloder 15 powder. That's using LC brass with RP 7 1/2 primers. Test was done in 50 degree temps. I've shot these loads up to 90 degree temps with no pressure issues. I wouldn't myself load any higher for wide temperature extremes.

My concern with these is that it seems to me, and I am a total been so I could very well be wrong, is that the velocities seem kinda high for a 16 inch gun.

You're shooting a 20 inch and getting the same velocity I'm getting in my 16 with just a .3 grain difference, to me this seems odd, I'd expect something closer to 2600 even.

1-7.7, 223 Wylde, AR Performance 3r melonited socom profile barrel.
