Winchester PDX1 45 ammo case failure

I've never experienced a case failure with factory ammo before. But that changed on Friday. I was doing some testing with my SA 1911-A1 loaded. The ammo was some old Winchester PDX1, 230gr JHP nickle cased ammo. This ammo was given to me a few years ago and this is the first time I've shot it. The copper jackets of the bullets looked a little tarnished but otherwise the ammo looked okay.

The grouping of the fired rounds looked normal for my gun. I did not see the failed case until I was home, checking out my fired brass.

I'm thinking I not take a chance with the rest of the box and just dispose of it.

I wonder if there was bullet set back since this ammo was old and given to you.

Did you check out the rounds before you loaded/fired them?

Also - where you located? I'll take then rounds, pull 'em, and reuse the components

I loaded the mags with 7 rounds at the range and didn't notice anything weird. The group looked normal and there was no evidence of one round being weird in shooting the group. I've seen reloaded nickle cases split but never experienced this with factory ammo. The primers all looked the same after firing.

Thanks for the offer to take them off my hands. But in the spirit of Calguns brotherhood, I would never risk the safety of a member by giving them questionable ammo.

That is the weakest case of case failure you can get. I wouldn't worry about it.

If you reload you will get a split case from time to time. I'd shoot them. I sure wouldn't pull them and reuse the components. You already know you have weak brass so why would you reuse them.

If it was set back or over charge you would have blown out the case at the feed ramp cut out or blown the head of the case off.
