    Custom Loading Dies?

    Hi All,

I have a need to have a custom sizing die made, who is making custom dies at reasonable prices and turn-around?

    Thanks in advance,
    Marcos (elalto)

    Forstner, Whidden

Call him run-like-hell-when-shtf-guy or dial-911-guy but NEVER call an unarmed man "Security".

CH4D is as close as you will get to "reasonable."

Custom Dies with a quick turn around time at a reasonable price don't exist.
Hornady and Redding would be my choice for best price with a decent turn around time.
On the full blown custom side Neil Jones Jim Carstenson(sp) and Warner Tool all make very nice dies.

I have essentially all Whidden dies, two of them are custom, from Whidden.

I believe I got the in 8-10 weeks.

I got my Whidden dies in about 8 weeks but had to send them back which took an additional 7 weeks.
They seem to be hit and miss.

BUT, because this is a falling block I don’t have the leverage to fully or easily chamber the round after it has been fired a couple of times. In the beginning, I had Lee Precision make me a set of reloading dies but ordered the neck sizing and seating dies only. NOW, I find that I need a FL sizing die and that is why I asked.
I will never understand what it is reloaders do not understand about threads. Ny dies and presses have threads, when sizing cases I can size cases that are .012" shorter in length between the shoulder to the case head than a minimum length '/full length sized case. (OR) I can size a case that is .025" longer from the shoulder to the case head than the length of a minimum length/full length sized case. For those that can count that is 35 different length cases when measuring from the shoulder t the case head without a custom builder of dies getting involved.

You are correct, I have always done the same with no problems. The problem I was having is that the base or area just above the web was just tight enough that the falling block's block (which has very little "forward" leverage) was not able to easily chamber the round.

I could "push" the round in but that got hard on my finger and thumb, a bolt gun would have no problem chambering the round as they were fire formed to the chamber.

Making and shooting wildcat calibers present all sorts of unique challenges AND THAT is what makes them so interesting, at least to me.

                    Thanks again all,
                    Marcos (elalto)
