    LC brass question

    Lake City brass.
I know what LC stands for.
    I know the Nato symbol.
I know the year of production.

My question is, what are the little dots in between the symbols for?
Are they for production lines? What work shift? What machines?

    Thanks
    Take care

Perhaps they are just ornamental dots?

This is a new thing that I believe came from when ATK federal took over. I don't think it means anything.

The little dots are octal number encodings. Look up 'SCAMP' for details.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Here's an old thread from AR15.com that's got the encodings list.

Here's an article on the program; it's quite an old program, around since at least 1970.

The Program Executive Office for Ammunition's Enhanced Performance Round program shaved off more than $20 million dollars in a value engineering project aimed at renovating the bullet production lines and improving the program's purchasing strategies...

Basically rounds manufactured at the arsenal plants like LCAAP, are made on high-speed machinery, and the dots provide traceability as to what machine(s) a given round was manufactured on, for QA purposes, etc.
