Is there an instance where a plain base is better than a gas check for cast bullets?

Not counting cost or time, is there even an instance when a plain base cast bullet is better than a gas checked bullet?

Consider two hypothetical bullets that are virtually identical in size and weight but one has a gas check and the other does not.
Be sure to ask your doctor if depression, rectal bleeding, and suicide are right for you.

In the United States a person's expertise on a subject is inversely proportional to their knowledge of the subject: The less they know about something, the more they become an expert on it.

gas check works better for high speed bullets that are more likely to lead. plain base works fine for slower speed pistol bullets like 38 and 45. You need to provide more information as to what you are trying to do.

Are you talking about rifle or pistol? I cast and shoot thousands of bullets, none of them gas checked.

Yes, just like there are times when soft cast is better than hard cast, depends on load, and just what you are trying to accomplish. Like others have said, we need more information as to just what you are trying to do.

All had checks do is give you the ability to push the bullets faster. If you can do what you want without leading and no had check then it is one less step.

Plain base are usually more accurate at speeds under about 1500 fps.
Plain base can be more accurate at speed over about 1500 fps if the fit, lube, and alloy are all excellent.

Yes when a gas check isn't needed. I've never needed a gas check with coated bullets in 30-30, 300BO, 45-70. I know in Australia and Europe they push 9mm bullets to Major Power Factor....
