Substitute wads for straight wall 12ga hulls?

I have about 2000 new Cheddite hulls and 4800 Federal 12S3 clone wads (1-1/8 oz loads). The problem is my stack height is too short so my crimps are deep and dished.
If anyone has suggestions for a taller wad that works in straight wall hulls I would appreciate the suggestions.
    Thanks

Have you tried the Claybuster 12SO clone?

The Gualandi wads are really nice and provide some selection.

    Downrange has some options too.

Sorry, I only load the straightwall cases heavy, so don't have a recipe on tap that I know stacks well.

    Shotgunworld should have some suggestions.

      ><

Try less wad seating pressure to just enough to seat on powder....then back out a bit on the final crimp station to get a more shallow crimp

I'd try Nobel Sport wads for your Cheddite straight walled hulls. Ballistic Products sells them and recommends them for Cheddite hulls. You could give them a call to get their recommendations for your loads as well as loading data or one of their manuals for Cheddite hulls.

Be aware those 12S3 wads are very still and do not compress much.

You can also use an overshot card (usually very thin, .030") to seal the payload in and this usually allows the crimp to look nicer.. It does not add to pressure at all since it only weighs at most about 1 or 2 pellets (less if larger shot).

I had a similar problem when I developed my low weight shot loads. I have some 12ga light loads down to 3/4 of an oz. Even with 1oz wads the stack height was too short. I was asking around at the range, and an old timer with lots of reloading experience told me Cheerios. He would use one to displace some shot to bring it to the right height.

Here is a picture with the 1oz wad and 3/4oz #7-1/2 shot.

I tried all ways to adjust my crimp, but it came out dished in.

I added a Cheerio to the bottom of the wad by hand and then dump the shot.

Be careful with dumping the shot. If you push your MEC press down to far it will eat the Cheerio. It will lodge itself in the dump tube.

Now with Cheerio and shot, I get perfect stack height.

I like using stale Cheerios. They tend to hold the crimp better.
