    Worlds Finest Trimmer

Decided to give this a try because the Lyman universal was a lot of work and kept creating lips that prevented one precise trim, needed to go back in a 2nd time.

Okay so im loving the WFT! 20 pieces of brass per minute and its pretty accurate by 0-2 thousandths of an inch. Then... theres about a quarter of my brass that cant reach the trimmer because theres variability in the shoulders of the brass. I believe this is due to the expander in the sizing die, not all the brass was sized in one sitting so there could have been adjustments to the die and this now im dealing with the consequences. Should i just go back and resize these cases until they can be trimmed to length on the WFT like the rest or just use my back up lyman trimmer for these?

Does your brass need deburring and chamfering after you trim?

Technically its not a triway so by the book you should do both but.... the cuts have been really clean compared to the lyman universal i had been using. Im going to seat a few bullets and see if they get scratched up at the mouth or if theres a significant push back during seating. If they go in nicely i wont be deburring/chamfering.

If you tumble after trimming, that'll take care of a lot of the burr problem. I hit the case mouths with a deburring tools anyway.

The RCBS deburring tools for their auto case prep thing have threaded shanks about the same size as the WFT shaft.

            Yes. BUT

You can fasttrack that. You can put your chamfer and deburr into your same motor that runs the WFT and re-process the batch. Triples the time, but saves your fingers. And WAY faster than a lathe type trimmer with a 3-way cutter.

            You could also get this:

Set up next to your WFT and buzz all three operations in one shot. Now you are at 15 pieces per minute instead of 20, but all 3 ops finished.

I tumble in steel pins for 3-4 hrs.

I suspect, though, that it's the case mouths hitting brass that takes the burr off. Dunno. Try it and see?

I use the cheap Lee power quick trim and dies. The first thing I did was remove the plastic adjustment ring and installed a steel 1/2" washer in its place to get rid of the unpredictable slop. It deburrs, chamfers, and trims to the exact same length every single time now. I can still adjust it by using shims if necessary, but my dies are dead on so I haven't needed to make any changes. My only problem now is that I can't trim .458 socom with it because there are no dies for it and never will be.

Before this setup I solely used my Lyman trimmer that is a heckuva lot slower.

After reading the comments here, I bit the bullet and ordered the WFT2 with chamber inserts for .223, .308 and 5.7x28. I also got the Lyman inside chamfer tool. I had about 1000 .223 cases that had been waiting a while for me to trim and I was in no hurry to tackle that task. The WFT2 and chamfer tool made REALLY quick work of all of them. Really accurate and consistent trim! I couldn't be happier. Two thumbs up.

Is this related to Trim-It at all? I've been using a hand tool to chamfer and deburr and it gets old after a while.
