Rainier Ballistics Bullets and Midway Bullet Shipping Questions

    Hey people...

I had a couple questions, any of you could help:

First of all, I see that Midway's catalog this month has what appears to be a good deal on some .40 Caliber (10mm) plated "Leadsafe" bullets by Rainier Ballistics. It looks like they might be a good deal for some cheap plinking rounds. Anyone have experience with Rainier "LeadSafe" bullets? I've never loaded with them before.

Also, I've never ordered bullets from Midway before but I've heard that the shipping can sometimes be so much that it negates any value on the cost saving from buying the bullets.

What do you guys think? I'm looking at getting a box of 1000 155 Grain bullets for $92.99

If you are in So. Cal., Fowlers can probably beat that price.

I have no experience with Rainier Ballistics, but I did purchased bullets from Midway before. I think you can simply enter your zip code before check out and the s/h will be reveal to you. I think it should cost not more then $15 to ship. Good luck!

Try to use a commercial zip code when you check shipping rates. Sometimes the shipping rates are lower. I have all of my purchases shipped to my office because I save shipping fees. (and my wife doesn't see the toys...)

I have used Rainier for 9mm, 10mm, 38/357, 357 Sig, 40, 41 Mag, 44 Mag, and 45 ACP. Work great. Just do a light crimp on the bullet so you just see a line.

Used Rainier 230 gr. 45 ACP's for years and they are great but had to switch to Montana Gold that has better prices that include shipping. Check them out before ordering. Good luck

Heads up though the bullets are plated not jacketed and sometimes people don't bell their case enough and rip the copper right off.

It happened to me two or three times. it makes this weird crunch sound

Also if you are ordering from midway check to see if they have a free shipping deal... they sometimes give you free freight if you order 2000 bullets at once (it will show right on the item)
According to this CDC document the firearms related death rate has been surpassed by the poisoning death rate.

Time for an assault drain-cleaner ban?

You bring up an interesting question, though:

If I end up getting these, do I load the powder charge as a cast lead bullet?

I would assume that I wouldn't treat it like a jacketed bullet...

I order almost all my reloading components from midway. Shipping always seams reasonable.

Check out Berry's Mfg., they also make plated bullets and quality is pretty much the same as Rainier I believe. All prices on Berry's website include shipping.
