[Redemption]

For the triggered crybabies who are missing the point here, this was meant to make light of what happened, to look at the humor in the situation, if you really think I am an SJW you need to lighten up and take a look in the mirror.


Some of you may know of my thread discussing votes in my wanting to get a progressive press. This is 100% what my experience was and I am sharing it more for the wow factor.

Anyway I had my annual Vegas trip this week (family thing) we go every year and I used the time leading up to the trip to do a lot of reading and finally settled on which press I wanted to buy. Anyway we got to vegas, checked in and first thing the next morning was a trip to look at reloading presses.

We showed up to a place which for now will remain nameless (for now lets just say that the first word in their name rhymes with ***) got some help mostly with wanting to know what came with the press. The 'employee' who was helping us was turning 69 that day, former gun store owner seemed like an all around ok guy (though a bit opinionated for my taste)

I also want to state that as a Marine I am not exactly known for being sensitive or.... left leaning. Takes an awful lot to get me offended.

Anyway near the tail end of the conversation we were talking about what calibers I like to reload, volume, the normal **** anyone would ask someone looking to step into progressive territory. 30 seconds after my missus walks away to shop firearms, guy then says to me:

"I dont pick up 9mm brass, I wouldn't bother unless I have an asian or a black there so I can say, go pick that **** up for me boy" This guy actually stretched his eyes out with his fingers when he said asian.... you know like kids do in 1st grade. The other employee who was present also an old white guy gave a pretty shocked look when the two of us locked eyes briefly.

I payed for my product and said nothing...we head to the car and my girl (who I should mention is Dutch Indonesian) is asking me whats wrong so I tell her and we go to lunch, as I am sitting there eating lunch I am getting more and more irritated so I ended up leaving a message for a manager, lunch gets finished and I finally say screw it Im taking the **** back I can buy it for way cheaper on Amazon...

I get all the way back and I get a call from the General manager as I am parking out front. I end up meeting up with them in the front lobby, clue number 2 here, its a big box store. After a conversation with the General Manager and Assistant General manager lets just say I payed less for my press than I could have gotten it for on Amazon...

First time encountering this kind of thing within the confines of the firearm community, anyone else ever run into something like this?

You haven't meet many rednecks have you? It wasn't okay for him to say that, your right. But look at his age and the way he has lived his life. I'm sure you've seen the movie "Grand Torino". Sometimes you have to just consider the source.

Yea.... I've experienced that a few times growing up, even while in the Marines. It definitely got to me, but I learned to accept that I was probably the first Asian they ever saw in real life and they didn't know how to handle themselves.

So..... what press did you get?

As a son and nephew of several WW ll marines and soldiers I will tell you that, even today those attitudes are around. And if you know your history then you can understand.

When I left for my first overseas tour my dad said "Just don't come back with a Jap wife."

Offensive? Sure, in today's world. For the men who fought and died at the hands of the Japanese then a little perspective is in order.

I see that you have learned well from today's grievance culture. You used your outrage for financial profit.

Well done.

Sure in the Marines I did, and a bit when I was in Missouri, when I was active duty, I have my misgivings about the people I went to fight when I was overseas but to me the distinction is that this guy was on the clock, if I was standing in his living room, would have been a different story.

When were you in? I was 04-08 they had a zero tolerance policy for it so it wasnt seen often. I went LnL.

maybe off topic but...when you set up the LNL, keep in mind your cartridge overall length varies depending on how many stations (die spots) you are using and whether there is an active function at each location. So when you set up your seating die, and are only using one case at that location (and no other locations) the seating depth will be different than when you are seating, resizing, decapping flaring, charging and crimping all at once.
So make sure you run several cartridges through with all stations functioning before you get frustrated and think that the press is broken. The first 2-3 and last 2-3 of the batch will have different OAL's. The rest in the middle of your 100-1000 round loading session will be spot on +/- 0.002".

Good luck with your new press. At least the press will not be making faces at you, even though it has two red necks.

Ive sort of thrown it together but I need to get some more projectiles before I dial in the unit. The Powder throw is manual right? people were talking to me when I put it together so Im not done going over the machine...

LOLOL Thats true, it does have red necks! Actually since I got home everyone in my house has been making cracks about how every handle pull will result in my press saying something new and racist.

I'm curious. After reaping the financial benefit did you stop the first minority that you saw and give him his share? Or did you pocket the money for yourself?

I was in from 01-05. It was more towards the beginning of my time in, during the woodland days, you know, before we went Digi. I didn't let it bother me too much, but then again, I didn't let it go either. Most of the time, they didn't know what to say when I would call them on it and would try to call me a racist.

No, the powder throw is NOT manual, it's case activated.

There is a hollow tube in the powder charging die. As he case moves up and contacts the hollow tube, the tube slides upward and raises the entire powder measure. With the lever arms and brackets, this in turn causes the powder measure rotor to rotate and drop a charge.
Each time a case goes upward into the powder charging die, the powder measure will drop a charge.
Without a case in the shell holder/plate, the powder measure will not move.
If your powder measure is not doing this then you have to lower (screw in) the die more. If you are crushing the case mouth then the die is screwed in too much.
