I use both the Sporter and the XFR unit. The sporter is a no thrills unit, it doesn't have all the zoom zooms and wam wams that are standard on the v3, but it gives me all the data I need. If you're using it on a rifle with a longer handguard, the handguard can prevent the unit from being properly mounted, causing failure to read.

Planning on using it on a rem 700 so not an issue but good to know for my ARs.

I use the V3 with the extra picatinny rail adapter for my handguns with rails. (non railed, semi autos is mostly not do-able as it stands) Works pretty well. I actually write the data down on a piece of paper later as I like to see things written out.

It's great for chrono-ing rounds at an indoor range, since typically you can't put anything beyond the firing line.

I would also consider the labradar, since it doesn't matter what you shoot (not mounted to gun) but it's fairly pricey

I have the sporter and the V3. Both spot-on with my 35p. In fact, Brian litz found the Magnetospeed sporter to be slightly MORE accurate than a factory spec set-up 35p.

It is a great Chrono that can be packed in the range bag, installed in minutes on the bench, doesn't care about lighting or other shooters, and can even be used indoors. For the price, the little sporter model can't be beat for performance.

I guess the only drawback is that it will change your POI; the amount of POI change will depend on the thickness of the barrel. I see anywhere from 1/2" on my target rifles, up to 8" on my lightweight hunters.

But I don't use a chrono to shoot groups, I use it to find accuracy nodes.

Thanks for the input. I feel another purchase going on to my amazon card.
