Looking to improve on long range buck shot pattern

I use the Lyman 5th ed. for my shotshell reloading reference. My most common hulls are Fed Gold Metal Plastic and Fiocchi, the powder is 800X. I cast my own 00 buck. I am looking at unslit wads. So before I start running amok, what say ye. I see that BPI does have a Buckshot manual. Is it worth it for 2 or 3 loads?

Got to change the forcing cone for it to pattern tighter.

Casting your own? Especially if you are using pure lead, you might try going to a harder alloy, add a little tin or antimony. Also using buffer will tighten patterns some. http://www.ballisticproducts.com/Buf...k/products/72/

For long range on shotgun. Your second round should be a slug.

I got slugs but want to tighten up the buckshot pattern. I can do some harder cast buckshot and do some loads with buffer.

Don't know what you are using these load in, but I would also pattern with different chokes if that is an option for you. I don't know if full choke is your best option with buckshot.
