Dillon 550 hangs up between stations

I'm at a loss because I have cleaned, lubed and inspected everything from the top of the ram up, changed shell plates, even swapped shell plates from my other 550 and the problem stays with the same press.

Basically what happens is I can't seem to tighten the shell plate down quite as tight as I would like. It's pretty tight but just a hair more wobble than I would like before it locks up.

Once that adjustment is made it sticks, as you would expect it to at the station, only it does it about 3/2 of the way to being in place. It sticks again once you get it in place but I'd rather it work smoothly like my other one and like it used to do.

    Any ideas are appreciated.

Dont adjust it so tight, or get one of the thrust bearing mods on ebay.

Also, make sure that none of the levers on the indexing star are bent. They are pretty easy to bend and can hang up as they pass over the shellplate.

I actually traded indexing stars with the other 550, same problem.

A video I saw stated to tighten the through bolt snug then back off an eighth of a turn then lock down with set screw. It has worked well for me.

I placed a very thin washer on the threaded part of the through bolt that is smaller in OD than the shoulder part of the bolt.
This took some trial and error to get just the right thickness so the shell plate turns just right, but I can now snug down the through bolt and it holds the adjustment well.
Be sure that the primer cup is dropping clear of the shell plate on the down stroke, too.

Thanks for all the help, I found the problem. The deflector bracket which guides the compleated cartridges down the shoot was lifted just enough to rub on the indexing star. Pushed it down a few thousandths and it's smooth as silk again

                Dillon Plate Loose

Make sure you tighten the allen bolt on the piston after you set the plate. The plate should not have any wobble in it and it should move freely.

there are 10 types of people. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

3/2 = 1.5. I didn't quit understand the reference but mine works great. I guess I'm in the zero category.

See, the number 10 in binary or on off, When converted to decimal is 2. It's a super nerd joke

If you are referring to the 90* v shaped bent wire that sucker tries to come out every so often & i have to smack it sharply with a hammer & wooden dowel. I've replaced it several times & it still tries to come out every so often.

All I did was to empty the press, and set a SPP .45ACP case on it and ran the ram up a bit, put it back in it's place easy peesy

Best use to date that I have found for SPP .45ACP brass.
