rifle rim diameter

hello all,
I have a type 38 jap. the bore looks to still be 6.5mm but the bolt face is 12.65mm what i am getting at is 7.5x55 swiss fits the bolt face and that has a 12.65mm rim diameter. is there a 6.5mm round that has a 12.65mm rim diameter? Thank You

The rim diameter of the 6.5 jap is 466/471 as is the 7.7 jap -- 6.5 has a body diameter of 447/455 the 7.7 has a body dia of 464/472 - They share the same bolt face diameter --- The 6,5 is a semi rimmed cartridge -- That does not mean it has not been rechambered -- 6.5 Roberts was a relatively common rechambering -- Chuck a dead 257 roberts in it, if it chambers and the bore is 6.5, it likely is 6.5x257 -- Do you need a 6.5 case? - My ha-penny

I would suggest getting a chamber cast to determine exactly what it is before you attempt to fire anything in it. Any gunsmith can do that or you can buy the supplies yourself.

If the rifle has been unmolested (bubba'ed) then it is probably 6.5mm Arisaka (aka 6.5Jap). Norma still loads ammo for it.

Thank you gunboat from what I could find online the 6x50r jap is 11.84mm I was just curious if there was a better fit for that bolt face I'd take you up on your offer if you have some spare 6.5 casings I am willing to drive to you. I'm in hayward.

I'm not looking to fire it anytime soon just looking to get idea what it takes reading online some are chambered for long gone wildcat loads if its worth spending the money to have it cast .Its been bubba'ed stock has been changed &tapped for ascope but $60 take achance

All I'm saying is just because a case drops into the chamber and the bolt closes doesn't mean everything's A-OK. A chamber cast is the ONLY way to really know what the chamber dimensions are and I'm recommending you have that done before you take any chances.

The type 38 jap does make a decent sporter -- It is a relatively strong action and could be rebarreled to a more usable cartridge. the 257 and 250 sav are good possibilities - If it is already been chopped up, it may merit some resurrection - I certainly would not spend much fixing it up or trying to rebuild -- A chamber cast is certainly worth while but i did not get the impression you were going to rush out with a handful of cartridges to the nearest range -- I only have a few examples of the 6.5 jap but would be happy to donate a couple for your examination -- I think we used to make cases from 220 swift, but those are more scarce than the jap now --
