Primer pokets and flash hole questions

Question 1 ..... After cleaning my brass in the tumbler, they look great, but the flash hole always seems to have media stuck in it. Do most guys clean the brass before de-priming or after?

Question 2 - how critical is it to clean the primer pocket? Obviously if it has burrs or any kind of build up - yes, but normally there is just some carbon discoloration.

    I tumble first.

I only worry about carbon build up in primer pockets when loading match ammo.

Like CSA, I tumble my brass first.

As far as the primer pockets, I clean them out each time on my rifle loads. I'd like to think that doing so keeps the primers at the same seating depth for consistancy, but it may be just me being anal.

I tumble then deprime/resize. I clean the primer pockets every other reload.

You are doing fine, except I would do the pocket cleaning everytime.

I think I'm kind of overdoing it. I tumble, De prime, trim, resize, clean the primer pocket, and then throw them back in the tumbler for a second time. I'm loading match ammo.

                    1. I don't worry about the media in the primer pocket, because it will come out when you size/deprime it.

                    2. I always clean primer pocket to have consistent seating depth of the primer.
