Cleaning 22

So as I pickup brass from the local shooting range(i am a hoarder), I also come across 22 bullets(people are so wasteful). So my question is can they be cleaned by tumbling, or can I use a vibratory cleaner? Is it even safe to clean??

What do you mean by "22 bullets"?

-A specific quantity of 22 projectiles

-A non-specific quantity of .22 caliber unfired ammuntion

-Something else. .. (?)

Dirt and grit stick to the wax lube. IMO they are best left on the ground.

I pick them up and save for potential future needs. At ten cents a piece it adds up. Not sure about cleaning them, I'm not familiar with that need.

Tumbling sounds like a bad idea for live ammo. I have nver tried it and won't....my eyes etc.
are worth much more than 6-12 cents per round.

I wipe them off and shoot them......never been an issue......and tumbling ammo is not a problem. Ammo manufacturers do it and it doesnt affect the powder to any degree that causes harm.

That's probably true, but your eyes won't be put at risk by tumbling ammo. It's the fastest, easiest, and most efficient way to get all the case lube off your cartridges after loading. Granted, I've never tumbled ammo in firing pins, but corn cob works great.

I would wipe any accumulated dirt and crud off them and then use them for informal plinking. Do not tumble unfired ammo, especially rimfire ammo. Tumbling could cause a strike on the priming compound resulting in the round going off.

I wouldn't trust someone else's ammo because it could be hot reloads. Pull em and reload.

Even if these were max 1800's black powder loads, would this be an issue?

I wipe them off and fire them, if they don't fire I pull the bullet for my scrap lead pile and burn the powder/ primer in my outdoor fire pit. Fizz-POP!
