    priming/reloading question

so i have a single stage press and im using it for the first time. it looks like it is easiest to prime as you are finishing the full length sizing. however from some of the other post i have read it seems like some people clean the primer pocket or re-tumble after full length sizing. so i am wondering if or how often i need to clean the primer pocket.

also i am loading mixed case brass and it seems like primers fit differently in different cases, so i am wondering do i push the primer in as far as it can go?

STOP! What caliber are you loading? If you have to trim your brass, some trimmers require that the brass is decapped! Since you are having issues with primer depth, I suggest either finding someone local to help you or, at least, post pictures here. If you put too much force on the primers, they can go off!

Yes, FIND SOMEONE LOCAL TO TEACH YOU, DON'T **** AROUND WITH RELOADING if you are not sure.

Are you actually having seating depth issues or just musing that some primer pockets are looser than others? (and if you cant answer that ... probably need a little more familiarity with the equipment/ procedure)

I always reload the same make brass together. Also, I sort them out by how many times they have been reloaded. I never mix match brass. I also use primer pocket tool to make the primer pocket uniform. For my gas guns, I make sure the primer seats ~.003" - .005" below the head.

I am currently using the Dillon Super Swage 600 and it works really good for me. It is expensive though. I think I paid like $86 or $96 for it.

Here is a pic for you buddy...

Put this $9 reamer on a cordless drill and you can ream pockets in 2 seconds.

                Left side reamed.

What are the chances of you messing up the cases with this tool? How many can you do before your hands get tired of holding the Drill? How big of a cordless drill?

ETA: I ****ing hate FC cases. The ones that I have come across that are not crimped are way too loose for the primers to properly sit in them, have you had this problem with FC brass?

You can't mess it up, it's an exact fit and it stops cutting at the right amount. Your hands won't get tired because it cuts fast and sharp, no need to give force. I'll make a video when I get a chance.

Here's an example of a guy using a drill press. I use a cordless drill standing horizontally on it's battery. You can see it's really fast.

I've done thousands both ways! The reamer is faster when I used it in a drill press. But, it's messier too. The Dillon swager is nice and it's what I tend to use now that I have it. But, I've messed up brass with it because, I've tried to go to fast and the ram has been slightly out of alignment. Both ways work fine. It's all a matter of personal preference.

I agree. I used both, but prefer Dillon.

the reamer idea just blew my mind!! =O

i think that would be the cheapest way to go compared to the dillon.

I remove the crimp by hand so I know its perfect each time.
