It makes great fertilizer. Use it in your flower bed or in your yard.

You can spread it out on a surface that won't mind scorch marks and is far from flammable materials and light it with a fireplace lighter or one of those long matches. Asphalt works well.

Smokeless powder is not explosive. It will burn quickly and fiercely once you get it going (and oddly, will release plenty of smoke).

If you have plants or a garden, you can use it as high-Nitrogen fertilizer (45-0-0).

Finally, I have heard (but not confirmed) that it can be safely flushed into a treated wastewater flow (down the toilet, not down the sewer). Nitrocellulose is hygroscopic and will quickly absorb water to become inert. At that point, it's pretty low risk stuff.

I use mystery powder as a fire starter...

          Burn it with fire

pour small amounts into a bbq and burn it if you want a little fun. If you want great looking flowers or your cucumbers are too pointy, spread it in your garden.

                  Throw it on the lawn.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

Distribute it on your lawn and water immediately. You would not want someone to walk by and flick a butt on your lawn while the dry powder was there!

That is exactly what I do. I once set about 2 pounds of mixed smokeless powder on the parking lot and wrote a name with it and set it on fire. It burned good and the name was visible for a long time. And, I set about 1 pound of balck powder on fire and it was some experience. Well, people do some stupid things sometimes.

Although it would be very amusing to watch them as that happen. Dam I chuckled out loud when i read this.

OK, both you and I have enough experience with solid flamables (smokeless powder) and explosives (black powder) to get away with doing something risky. I do feel that there are a lot of younger, less expeienced individuals on this forum who mught get hurt trying to light unknown powders. Also, in many places, I bet it is not legal. So, this thread needs a big disclaimer!

KIDS, PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!!!!!!!

Instead, if you can not use it on a lawn, contact your local fire department for proper disposal. I prefer walking in WITHOUT THE POWDER and talking to them FTF to make arrangements for the disposal. Make sure you let them know the amount and that it is properly stored. You do not want the bomb squad rolling code to your house because all you said is, you found a bunch of unknown gun powder and...........

i saw a bomb squad try to diffuse a m80 in the late 90s.. it was a waste of so much resources.. I just wanted to yell LIGHT IT!! Or the one where they blow up some guys brief case because he forgot it while loading up the kids in the car and left it on the sidewalk.

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.
