    Problems with jamming 9mm

    Hey guys,

I just bought a Dillon XL650 a week ago. I set it all up and loaded 800 rounds. I'm using CCI primers, ICR target load 4.3gr powder, and a 115gr projectile. I went shooting yesterday and was getting malfunction after malfunction. One bullet go so stuck in the barrel that I needed a flat head to pry it out (not a live round). It seems that the bullets are not seating fully into the barrel because often times, the slide is just pushed back a little bit. When this happens, I can't rack the slide back and I'm forced to jam it forward, usually hitting the back of the gun on a hard surface (in a safe direction). Do you think that the crimp isn't snug enough right now? I ordered a case gauge but just wanted to get some opinions from seasoned vets.

Do a "plunk" test. If they don't easily drop into the chamber of the barrel,
    then something is wrong.

What bullets, and what overall length are you using?

could be your "belled" cases need to be crimped alittle tighter.
Check the diameter of the case below the bullet and report back.

You can do "post" sizing on the cases after the bullets are installed if you have a post sizing die....

It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.

        Buy a Glock. j/k
It's a lesson learned. Everyone's done it, but never reload a great
amount until you get the recipe right.
Hope it get's worked out and you don't have to pull 799 bullets.

9mm don't get much of a crimp. I would measure the overall length of your round and make sure you are within spec.

Looks like the bullets are fully sitting in the barrel right. I'd say about 1 out of 10 are not sitting right. You guys think that the crimp isn't tight enough?

A 10% failure rate is pretty high. Does the brass have a "snake bulge" in the middle?

115 grain projectile...lead, plated or jacketed?

Your gun: it shoots factory made lead, plated and jacketed OK, just not your reloads?

Thanx for the pic...it's a little blurry (jacketed I presume) but it looks like your case mouth may be too wide...lower the crimp die a little more...case and mouth should be smooth and straight on the bullet sides.
Compare your crimp to a quality factory round.

I load my 115 FMJ to 1.155, I'm going to guess you need to remove the bell from the case mouth. Even at 1.155, mine pass the plunk test in both my VP9 and AR9 barrel.

In addition to load recipes you need to have the SAAMI specs printed out and ready on your bench too. I solved all my jamming issues by loading to the center of the specs.

Use head space gage....or...disassemble your pistol....I mean disassemble....see if your reloaded cartridge fits in the chamber.

See above mentioned plunk test yt.

Of course first problem is loading 800 rounds without testing them .. 20 maybe, but not 800.
