308 and 223 Bullet Question

Hello,

I just picked up 2500rds of 308 147gr FMJ BT copper with a cannalure and open back that is lead filled. I also picked up about 5k 55gr 223 FMJ BT copper with lead.

These are new, not the typical pulled M80 or 193 bullets. Is there any way to figure out who made these and if they're good for plinking or reload for more accurate application.

you need a bullet comparator to see if the bullets are close in tolerences.

I'd check weight variance. You could probably sort them and pickup some decent accuracy even if they're inconsistent.

Seat them out long for single shot shooting to see how accurate they could be.

Generally speaking, most FMJ are plinking grade. Hornady FMJ seem to be pretty good, but many other "no name" or Widener's, MidSouth, or other bulk specials fly like rocks.
