Evaluated Unique at 5.0,5.5, 6.0 gr over Xtreme 124 gr RN TMJ vs factory load in 1911 FS.
Unique is much easier for a rookie to load. Failure to prime does not result in a stream of powder all over the Lee. Density is NOT what the Lee chart says. Physical density calc shows it to be much less dense. Double charge risk eliminated.Two charges overflows the case. Another positive for a rookie.
Downside is load accuracy. Small disks give +/- 0.1 gr variances. OK for range loads though.
For the 6.0 gr load, the 124 gr bullet actually compressed the powder load by 0.010".
Results:
5.0 very mild recoil feel, OK action, accurate
5.5 moderate, good action, accurate
6.0 strong, good action, most accurate (this bullet loves speed)
