    44-40 question

I have been reloading for years. I reload mostly the common rounds used by most. I am considering getting a Henry in 44-40. I was curious if anyone loads for this caliber? Is it hard to find brass? Do you have any good recipes for 44-40 in a Original Henry Rifle. I currently do load 45Colt, so I am trying to see if I want to stick with 45Colt or get a 44-40.

    Thank you

I don't load this caliber, but you can buy brass direct from Starline

I once was looking into buying a vaquero in .44-40 but was nervous because it seemed tough to find brass for, once fired brass anyway. I think I'd go for .44 mag or maybe the .45 colt, if the price is good however it could be worth it.

I have NEVER seen once-fired .44-40 cases and you sure won't find much factory ammo on store shelves. The line of -40 cases are all very thin and easily damaged. I would stick with .44 Special or .45 Colt.
You can check with Wolf for back issues covering reloading .44-40.

38-40 and 44-40 brass is readily available. These calibers are easy to reload for, and a whole lot of fun to shoot.
