    Bullet puller fail

How do you describe how much crimp you have besides light and medium. I know a too heavy crimp will crush the case. Visually my crimps look the same when I turn the die. My question is can a crimp be too heavy to use a bullet puller on the round. I slam the puller against my workbench and nothing happens.

Put the round in your press and use something (maybe your seating die) to seat the bullet a little deeper. This should loosen the crimp up enough for you to pull the bullet with either a Kinetic puller or a collet type puller.

So my crimp is to too tight? Would it be bad to shoot the ones I already did?

Too much or an excessive amount of crimp can make it hard to chamber the round. Its hard to say if the rounds are tooo tight. Try chambering them first. If they chamber ok then dont worry about it. Just remember that you dont need a very heavy crimp to get a good round.

I would say that you are not hitting it hard enough to pull the bullet. I have pulled some milsurp stuff in the past that was not only crimped it really tight but when it finally did come out it appeared to have some kind of black tar like sealant on it, man those things were tough to get out, 6.5x55 Swede Mauser stuff.

That is exactly why I said to seat the bullet A LITTLE deeper. It will also break the tar seal of a surplus round. If you can't pull them, find someone with a collet puller to help you.

Unless the metals are fused, you can always pull the bullet

It's all in the wrist. And use a block of wood sitting on the concrete floor as a striking surface. Less give. And less subconscious desire to pull the punch.

eta - and if your crimps ARE all this hard, you probably should be watching out for signs of excessive / spiking pressure as a too-strong crimp will liekly hold the bullet too long. If you are using a max recommended charge in the rounds, you could be in for real trouble.

With my normal crimps (even with a FCD), it'll take me a good 3 - 5 whacks to pull the bullet.

I broke the bullet hammer POS some time ago and now use the RCBS collet bullet puller.

The collet method works so nice and is fast.

So it was just a Fail. I slammed it harder and the bullets came out after a couple of whacks. I just didnt know I had to slam it that hard.

Here's a video on how to properly setup your crimp dies.

I did the same thing awhile back. I had to pull probably 150 rounds. I screwed something up and sized a bunch wrong and they wouldn't chamber so I had to pull all the ones that didn't fit. They were 9mm reloads.
