question for the guys resizing 223

For anyone that has any experience here resizing 223 into 300 blk
what dies are you using. i have the lee 300 blk dies but have never used them to resize. i have heard that the lee dies are not very reliable when it comes to resizing.

can anyone tell me if this is true?

I use the lee dies and they work fine for me, even if I don't use lube, they resize just fine.

As for the dies not being very reliable, don't know anything about that, but that's just my experience.

I have standard RCBS and Hornady 300 BLK die sets. They both work perfectly forming and sizing .223 brass. Both size the shoulders back to factory dimensions or can be adjusted to size the shoulders to fit my chambers. I highly recommend Hornady's Headspace Gauge Set to check your shoulder sizing to fit your chambers. You have no idea if you're over or under sizing without a gauge. The Hornady set works with your calipers. I have read of troubles with Lee 300 BLK dies but also many with no issues?

          223 to 300blk

I use the Lee to form then I use the rcbs to load if you use the lee run the cases through twice

Yeah I use Lee dies to form and reload 300. Only problem I've had (for 300 and 223) is that for WCC brass, the standard lee shell holder (#4?) is too loose and sometimes slips over the rim when extracting the brass from the sizing die. So I got an RCBS shell holder which works great.

What does it even mean to not resize reliably? They work fine for me but I do get stuck cases if I skimp on lube.

Heard this where? Spreading FUD. The Lee dies work just fine for resizing cut 223 to 300 AAC (hopefully you are cutting them down first).

But hey, if you believe what you've heard, go spend 2x or more on a set other than Lee so you can put your concerns to rest. The Lee bashing never ceases to amaze me.

I use rcbs small base dies. I use to use hornady but those were a bit finicky so made the switch. Haven't had any problems since. If you're shooting it in an auto loader (ar15) go with the rcbs small base dies, but if you're using a bolt gun then you would just need to bump the shoulder back so your lee dies should be okay (that's after cutting and forming of course)

First of all are you shooting .300 blk out of an AR? If so Lee dies won't work for you. RCBS SB AR .300 blk die set is what you need. It resizes your cases a little below saammi specs so it ensures it will chamber in your AR. If you use Lee's resizing die it will not flare the case mouth enough so when you seat the bullet you will be out of spec and your round will not eject forcing you to mortar your rifle to get the stuck casing or round out.

I use RCBS Small Base .300 BLK dies but only the resizing die with RCBS #10 case holder. Don't use Lee case holder. The bullet seating and factory crimp dies I use are Lee. Be sure to lube your cases and Do not use hornady one shot to lube your cases unless you want to deal with stuck cases in your resizing die. I recommend Lee's case lube or RCBS.
Also I recommend turning the RCBS resizing die with the reloading ram up until it touches the case holder. Then bring the ram down and give it a 1/4 turn and lock it in place. Then back out the primer pin so only 3/4 of it is showing. Trust me on this it will make life easier with the primer pin backed out a little. One more thing I forgot to mention. Get a .300 blk case gauge so you can test every now and then to see if your cases are in spec. For trimming I recommend the worlds finest trimmer 2. Pop the sucker on a drill and you will be trimming 9-10 cases a min.

thank you i appreciate your input. I am shooting out of an Ar platform and that issue of chabering the round was actually the one i was refering to.

All this info will be really helpful and i will be sure to look into the worlds finest trimmer.

                              thanks again
