Any advantage in using BR primers

Any advantage or drawback to using Bench Rest primers over standard primers? I plan to load 5.56 and .223 brass, and found some primers that say small rifle br. Cost is about the same as standard. any input?

Advantage is potential increase in accuracy.
Disadvantage is that they are usually more costly.

Generally, they ignite more evenly.... so, what you will see is smaller ES and SD of your final MV as compare to the exact ones with the non-match/non-BR primers...

CCI's BR and Fed's Match are comparable...

CCI's regular and Fed's regular are comparable...

WLR is actually very good, on par with CCI's BR and Fed's Match, but they are "smaller" in diameter, therefore, easier to get loose...

Rem's is about the same as CCI's regular and Fed's regular...

      Wolf... I won't touch, so, I don't know...

        Depends -
A.) what kind of shooting are you going to do, and
2.) are you or the particular weapon accurate enough to be able to gain from the difference?

Well, I just wanted to shoot some at cans and other things to keep my wife and kids interested in shooting. As of right now, I have a 20" match target AR and a le6920 and a third as yet undetermined under construction AR based rifle. The rounds will just be for fun and in case of Zombie attacks, Just starting to reload, not worried about one hole target punching. But these were primers that I could find and they were on $3.00 more per 1k than standard which were out of stock.

It's not going to hurt anything to use them....

If you can get them for a good price by all means use them. They are best suited for reloaders looking for that extra edge for accuracy and consistency.

But it doesn't mean you can't use them for plinking.

Wolf primers are probably made by Privi Partizan.

I switched from standard CCI 200 primers to CCI BR2 primers and saw an increase of 30fps and the loads are very consistant in velocity from shot to shot. The rifle is a Remington 700 LTR with a stock 20" barrel and the load was a 168gr SMK, Lapua brass, CCI BR2, and RL-15.

Since all primers are still done by hand the best and most even ones are deemed BR they are just more consistent with the amount of chemicals.

For the AR, the best bang for the buck is either the Wolf SR Magnum primers or the Remington 7-1/2 benchrest primers. Rem 7-1/2 are about $25 per 1K and are basically the same price as all the other non BR primers out there (i.e CCI 400, Winchester SR) and are very good primers for the AR. Hard cups, consistent ignition, and the most widely used by AR Service Rifle HP competition shooters.

Wolf Small Rifle Magnum is starting to gain popularity because they work well. I still haven't tried any myself, but will probably try them out since the cost of CCI BR4 are almost twice the cost of Wolf and Remington 7-1/2, and I need to get more SR primers now that I am competitively shooting two SR cartridges (.223 and 6mmBR).

Note: Get the Wolf SR Magnum primers, and not the basic SR or the so called 'NATO' primers sold by Wolf. The SR Magnum primers are the ones you want if buying Wolf SR primers.

Right now I personally use CCI BR4 and Remington 7-1/2 for the AR.

Wolf SR is good in my .40 and .223 no issues. They go bang.
I think the AR-15 primers are just a Gimmick. YMMV/IMHO

I'm quite certain that each primer is not dispensed by hand.
Imagine what primers would cost if they were!
I think CCI means that only the most experienced operators setup and run the BR primers.
