Oal will depend on your particular firearm.Any number from a book or any other source is just a reference.A few thou wont make a bit if difference.Keep it simple! -
I seat shorter, but I did the proper push test on mine. I read a lot of people going to .950-.960". It sounds like you're reading max specified length which probably won't chamber properly with a FP roundComment

It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.Comment

Care to elaborate on your experience with plated bullets?
My Bersa runs great with xtreme 100gr FP's. 3gr HP-38 @ .950 oal....but as for me and my house, we will serve The Lord.

I don't load .380 rounds. I do use the 100 gr extreme ones in my 9mm. Makes for a fast speed ball. I just picked up 1k of these 95gr FMJ's...
I should be able to push these a little faster then plated.
The closest thing I reload to .380 (9x17) is my 9mm Makarov (9x18). It also uses 90 to 100 gr Bullets. They are a different dia. (.365" dia).
What powders are you going to load those extreme rounds with? I have shot almost 5k of those in the last 2 years.

Yeah, plated bullets bite. Just ask Joezamboni in post #3 and his push test.
With plated bullets you will never get the crimp you need no matter what kind of die you use or how you adjust that die.
With an longer bullet or wider bullet you will get more friction, but a 'fer-chit' inconsistent crimp. When you shoot pistols at 50 yard targets and score each round you will notice. Heck, even a 10 yards an accurate shooter will see the groups open up.
It is really too bad because the bullet companies that make plated bullets have always made decent to excellent cast bullets. It must be in the consumer demand & profit margin.
No one believes me about plated bullets despite the push test. At what pistol accuracy matches & events do the competitors who reload use plated bullets?Comment

Post 2 is what I do as well. Use your barrel to test the OAL and plunk test your rounds. It will save you much time. I use a RCBS die and tension is very good with plated bullets. I typically use Rainier Bullets. Maybe the diameter is a little larger than others.Comment

I'll also throw in that personally I feel the extremes are kinda "meh" while the Berry's hollow base RN have been more accurate for me.
They're also currently $70 per 1k @ Cabelas and you can use 20% off Giftcards and 10% off AJ for $49 per 1kComment

And how do they cycle thru 4 or 5 different .380acp pistols?Have loaded 1500 or so this last year.
What reloading manual uses the word, 'Maybe', when describing the correct bullet diameter for .380acp?Maybe the diameter is a little larger than others.
Are not the 'maybe' bullets the same bullets with erasers on the bullet tip?Comment
