I'll have to give Longshot a try some day. Right now I've got a bunch of BlueDot so that's what I'll be using for reloading in this year.

I have some 180 grain HAP bullets which are jacketed HP, so I look at speer for the 2 powders I have, Unique and Blue dot.

Speer says Blue Dot 10.0 to 11.0 and Unique 7.2 to 8.0

Lyman says Blue Dot 8.1 to 10.3 and Unique 5.8 to 6.7

this is a pretty significant difference. Advice please?

Also if it matters I will be shooting these out of a Glock model 40 exclusively.

I will also be measuring every single power load on a digital scale, I'm anal like that.

      Thank you.
HAP bullets are basically XTP bullets that don't expand, so you can use XTP load data.

Speer books do not have load data for Hornady products. I do not know about Lyman.

LEE manual shows 9.6 to 10.4 grains for Blue Dot, and 6.5 to 7.0 for Unique for 180 grain jacketed hollow points @ 1.250" COAL.

Since the bullet is specifically listed by Hornady, I would suggest that you abide by their min and max loads. Hornady lumps in the 180 grain XTP, FMJ, and HAP bullets into the same load data category.
What is the overall length. Bullet depth makes a difference.

On a side note, it seems like approx. half my nickel brass is already split after one firing in .40. I cant imagine 10mm fairs better?

Ill keep around the ok looking nickel, but its for well below min loads. Lower than what a factory recoil spring will cycle. Ill still toss them after a couple loadings shooting them that way anyway.

Yes 1.250 for both manuals for 180 grain.

One answer about the disparity in information from the two books:
The old book used old technology to measure pressure. The newer book used newer methods for measure pressure. The newer methods are likely more accurate than the older methods. Couple that with the things that make loads different in different books (i.e. one chamber smaller than another, different lots of powder, different humidity of powder, etc) and it is possible to get two completely different data sets.

Blue Dot is known to vary more than some powders in burning rate from jug-to-jug, plus it tends to pressure spike more than some other powders as well.

This has caused some issues for those who load Blue Dot in the higher pressure pistol rounds...

But safe reloading practice would require the reloader to drop down and work back up using a chrono when opening a new jug of ANY powder.

Invest in a chrono and use it during load development.

It's a basic tool for the reloader as important as a scale.

Btw, I really don't see the point to always run the 10mm at max, it's a hot round to begin with.

Better defense loads are down around 40SW range, except for hunting loads,.

I will only run a max load in a 10mm in new brass.

I wanted to try bluedot when i first started for 10mm couldnt find it so settled for AA9.

Im loading 180 plated and have pushed 1300 from them with about 14 grains of powder had one just start a smile but it was already fired brass.

I will go thru my fired brass when i get home and measure case expansion the one that began the smile measure at .435 while other loads in that same batch were about .434 which is about as fas as you wanna push it.Again this was already second loaded brass to my knowledge.I loaded a few new ppu brass and same load measured .433.

Now for my plinker loads i keep the charge to 13.0 grains which in my gun has been safe and no signs of excess pressure but still has a nice punch too.

Just earlier this week I ran a 180 grain XTP with 10.5 grains of Bluedot out of a DW Pointman 7-10MM. No adverse pressure signs and it shot well with 2 or 5X's loaded cases. Hornady is typically conservative with their published data.

I love Blue Dot for 10mm. My favorite load is 10.5 grains under a 180 gr XTP. Very accurate in both my Glocks and my Kimber. Power Pistol is a great powder too.
