Ammo for both hunting and self defense

Hey I'm looking to buy some DFG legal ammo in 308 and 12 gauge for both hunting and secondarily self protection. I want to get enough that i can actually practice with it. I know non lead is gonna be expensive but what are some suggestions that are effective but not super premium crazy expensive. Just brands in general and a good price per round I'll figure out later what bullet weight etc works best.

In lead-free 308, I've found 'Full Boar' to be very accurate; those are GMX bullets, which our local Bass Pro carries. Others that I respect have related difficulty in getting them to shoot well, but they worked great in the guns I've tried them in, and they're cheaper than Barnes.

I do however really like my immediate neighbors and thus for SD I'd pick something with about 2000fps less velocity.
