I use a towel on a dowel because my dies are smooth in the inside. I prefer 100% contact between the case and die. My dies are not embeddable, a towel is, if there is something in the die that does not belong it will imbed into the towel; I have no preference when it comes to towels, I use paper and cloth.

Running a paper and or cloth towel into the die will not remove lube.

I load my own cast bullets that I lube with Lee Liquid Alox. I inspect, and clean if necessary, my bullet seating die each time I load. Because the lube covers the entire bullet and is not just in the bullet grooves, it can build up in the seating die and start seating the bullets deeper into the brass.

My "cleaning" is usually just scraping any dried lube out with a cheap dental pick or whatever else happens to be within reach.

          We can clean 'em?

Go to Harbor Freight & get a pack of those assorted round brushes. Great for getting crud out of the bodies. Unless I've been using something like the fore mentioned Alox I hardly ever clean 'em.

I lube and clean mine of surface rust.

About 5-6 months before the next hint of rusting.
