    "Hot" 45ACP loads.....

Does anyone have a safe load that even comes close to DoubleTap's 45ACP? I'm finding it hard to believe, but from what I've read, their numbers are conservative, and they are standard pressure!

    (out of a 5" 1911):
    185gr @ 1225fps (616fpe)
    200gr @ 1125fps (562fpe)
    230gr @ 1010fps (521fpe)

I haven't even seen +P load data at these velocities....

well given an ideal powder the max pressure they need for that 200grain load is 10600psi so its physically possible... I'll dig into my load tables later and see if I came even close

Yep, those Double Tap 45s are pretty impressive.

Can't help you on the load thing since I don't load anything higher than published data in manuals which are conservative due to liability I suppose. That said, this is one of those instances where you have to work up a load carefully yourself and take all responsibility for what happens if you push the envelope.

Yeah, Double Tap makes some interesting claims, eh?

I'm not normally one to push the envelope, but the best I've been able to get out of 230gr GDHPs from a 5" 1911s is around 950FPS using 7.2gr of Power Pistol. That's close to, or at the max recommended load for this bullet/powder combo from all of the major loading manuals. Power Pistol is an excellent choice for these types of high-end loads, and yet is still 70-100FPS slower than the Double Tap loads that use his Super-Duper Magic Powder.

          Not a fan, I assume?

Not so much that, but there's no such thing as a free lunch. I don't want to ruffle any feathers, so I'll leave it at that.

I would have to check, but I believe I have a 200gr 6.x gr Unique load that gets around 1100f/sec. But dont quote me on it as I have not looked back that far in my load history in a while.

Have no problem ordering from DT for defense loads, but would like to be able to replicate them for practice loads.

Their FMJ's are the price of the GD's.

If you see the reviews, people are claiming higher than advertised velocities (1057 and 1060 with the 230gr GD out of a Glock 30)

9.0gr Accurate #5 gets just north of 1000 fps with a 200gr bullet (from my range data) and the published max is 9.7gr ... which should get you to the 1100 neighborhood so pretty much the same as dexter's load

So yeah its pretty much at the upper edge.

Thank you for the feedback guys.

                    From Accurate's Load data:
                    #5 under a Sierra 200gr FPJ: 9.7gr @ 1050fps

                    ...and from Alliant's:
                    Unique under a 200gr Gold Dot: 7.3gr @ 984fps

The one that's blown me away is one of Vhitavouri's 9mm loads....

                    They claim for 3N38 under a 147gr XTP: 6.9gr @ 1207fps!!! That's a 475fpe 9mm load!...(and the "starting" load is 6.3gr @ 1171)

The clincher.....I contacted Vhitavouri directly to ask about pressures on this load....they claim it is all standard pressure! I think this is one I'm going to have to try for myself.....

I've so far never found load data, even in +P to match DoubleTap's standard pressure 45ACP loads. They most likely have access to powders the rest of us do not, but geez....

Randall, if you happen to read this and have the time, would you please run a simulation of the above 3N38 load and see what kind of pressures it estimates? I'm still having a problem believing it....

                      Thanks.
