    Frangibles

Does anyone load frangibles? Any hints and suggestions would be appreciated.

I mainly load 40 SnW and have been seeing some 135 grain frangibles for a low price. Unique is my go to powder.

There was a thread on here about the LeHigh stuff being sold on MidWay USA. Looked fairly nice and reasonable - they called it 'fracturing' vs. frangible but I'm pretty sure it is a congruent term.

Also; Ballistic Products has some interesting items in this area as well.

I still have a few of these in a parts bin. I loaded some a few years back using Unique, but not in any great amounts and I did it before I started cataloging my load data. IIRC, I started around 8gr and got to just under 9gr before I figured out that there wasn't much point to going any higher. Uses 1/2 again to 2/3 more powder than loads with heavier bullet weights.

I didn't care for how they shot. I found them to not be as accurate as heavier bullets, even fired from different guns. YMMV. I'll admit bias though, I shot a lot of .40 back when pretty much all you could get were 180gr RFP and FMJ pills and found them to be more accurate in my workups, so the 180s remain my go-to bullets for reloading.

I loaded up a bunch of 223 and 308 frangibles for shooting steel in a shoot house. I used the recommendations at Frangiblebullets.com for the loading. Both guns cycled well and had no instances of damaging the steel targets. https://frangiblebullets.com/Reloading.html

You can Google the Sinterfire PDF reloading guide that has load data charge weights. If you can't find it, PM me with an email address and I can send you the pdf

            Thanks everyone for the help.

I am a newb reloaded, but keep seeing the frangibles cheap. Almost too cheap to pass up.

I stopped using them because most of the ranges still ban them on steel targets. Why, I'll never know.

I've loaded 1,000s of them. Bought them from Midway on sale a few years back. Remington brand, 100gr.FP supposedly for 357Sig. But loads 9x19 just fine.
A couple of things I discover,

                1. light loads don't cycle properly sometimes but...
                2. Heavier loads throws fliers everywhere.
                3. Can't handle crimping. Crimping cuts the bullet or fracture it. If the bullet don't break off of the press, it breaks mid flight, making 2 holes on target.

My load development was done with HP38 in .2 gain increments. 4.5 or less had cycling problems. 4.9 throws fliers. 4.7grs is perfect. cycles all auto loaders and accuracy is on par with the 115, 124gr FMJs. Don't put any crimp on it.

BTW, where do you find frangible deals? Can you share your source?
                thanks
