300 savage with varget?

I got my grandpa's Savage model 99 and better than 100 once fired cases.

Bullets I have are 168, 165 and 150 grain. I'd rather use the 165's because the others are for .308 loads.

I'd like to use varget,as I have a lot of it but I can't find any 300 savage loads for varget with 165's

Well, I thought it would be too fast, and there is no data for it in any of my manuals, but lo and behold my lee dies came with data for using 335 in the .300 savage. H335 is one of the powders I have a lot of and it meters beautifully. We'll see how it shoots

Yeah Hodgdon's site doesn't show any Varget loads for it, but it does show H4895 which is the brother of Varget. It shows loads for 110gr projectiles to 200.

It's odd because the case size and bullet weights of .300 savage are a lot closer to .308 than .223, I would expect Varget to be a good choice for .300 savage.

I hate metering stick powder, so I am happy to work up a load in H335.

You will be better off (for hunting) using 150gr bullets.

I have 150 SGKs, that would be a heck of a deer rifle

The latest Speer book shows best results using Win748 at 38 grns for 150 gun bullet. I got best results using 39 grns of it with Hornady 150 Inter-Loks . Have Varget, but went with powder book suggested was best.
