a little reloading help

So I was doing inventory on my reloading stuff and I ran across a box of about 250 of these little guys.

.357 in diameter, 180 grain, jacketed flat point.

I want to load them up to shoot out of my dan wesson 357, but am not having much luck finding mininum and maximum load data, or recommended OAL.

Powders I have to use are Alliant Unique, Red Dot and 2400.

Can anyone help me out here please.

Alliant has some older data.

180 JFP
OAL 1.58

Red Dot 5.3 gr 930 fps
Unique 7.0 gr 1125 fps
2400 12.5 gr 1300 fps

Those are MAX loads.
Starting loads are at least a grain below and I wouldn't run Red Dot or Unique any harder than that.

You can also call Alliant Tech Support and they should be helpful.

Be careful of older data for 2400 If I recall they changed it a bit and lowered the safe data parameters. Start 10% to 15% lower and work your loads up to find your pressure limits. Be safe.

I've had some questions about alliant powders (especially 2400) and the folks there have been more than helpful..took a couple of days to get back but got the info I wanted...

Hornady 9th has 2400 data with 180g XTP jacketed HP:

10.3g 900fps start
12.6g 1150fps max

Nothing else in the manuals I have.

Lyman lists a 357 mag load with the Hornady 180gr jhp (bullet #35771). The only powder listed that you have is 2400. Starting is 10.0, max is 12.6 for 597fps and 949fps. OAL is listed as 1.585"

The bullet looks like the sierra 180Gr FPJ.

First, the bullet was designed for use in the 357 max as it can handle higher pressures and velocities than lighter bullets.

here is some load data from sierra:

standard gun:
unique: 5.2 to 6.6 grs
2400: 13.1 to 13.9 grs

Single shot pistol:
2400: 11.5 to 12.1 grs.

I have used 13.0 grs H110 with that bullet in my 10" TC with good luck.

I run that bullet in a lever gun. I use 11.5gr of VV N110 in case that helps you at all.
