Xmas gift dilemma

OK fellas so on Friday I went to Turner's to purchase a rcbs supreme reloading press. They didn't have it in stock so I ordered one they will have it in ten days.OK cool I'll wait . Xmas day my wife gave me the Lee loadmaster press with the stand and a die set for my 270win .love her for that. the loader has a all in one set up deprimer - powder - bullet etc
So do I cancel that other one? Will I need two of them? Give me your opinions suggestions thanks

I would just cancel the order, and use that money to buy other components that you still need.

No, do not cancel your order. set one press up for the caliber you shoot a lot of (270?), and leave it as a dedicated press. Use the other for various caliber load development.

Every reloader I know has multiple presses in operation...... right now I have 5, all doing various things. And, that's not counting the shot-shell reloaders - I have 4 of those.

Agree with bigbossman. I only have two presses but it comes in mighty handy, one for higher volume pistol, one for rifle, get the picture?

Cancel the order and use that $ to get other goodies. If you want another press order it online because Turners doesn't necessarily have the best prices on presses.

IMHO the loadmaster ain't the best for 30-06 based cartridges. OK for pistol.

I can say I'm REALLY happy with my Redding T7. Batch processing in volume or load development. Can hold 2 calibers of pistol or 3 of standard rifle dies. A bit weak on priming without other tools, but there are other tools.

I do have a single stage RCBS and a Hornady LNL AP. The AP sees volume pistol rounds. RCBS hasn't been mounted since I got the T7.

It's nice to have multiple presses so I would agree, don't cancel it.. HOWEVER, make sure your wife isn't going to get offended or hurt and basically feel like you went out and bought the press you really wanted after she gave you the Lee as a gift. If she is that type, cancel it and get components and accessories that you need. This will give you time to figure out what second press you truly want anyway, you never know.. after you've got some time reloading under your belt you may decide you don't even want a rcbs but instead want a coax or something.

Send the Lee back and use that money for a quality press.. you'll be happy you did. Your wife might be pissed though. But she'll get over our eventually. Maybe.

Do not cancel. You will find a use for both and the RCBS stuff is much better than the lee. While you are at it get some Hornady Lock Rings and toss the so-called locking POS ones that do not lock on the lee dies.

Thats a real possibility. Honestly while you may find a backup/single stage press useful there is no reason to pay over $300 for an entire secondary set up. You can always grab a lee ss press for $60 down the road if you find you need one.


You only mentioned reloading 270. Do you shoot high volume rifle or pistol ammo? If you only shoot precision rifle and in small batches the bigger issue is a progressive is probably the wrong press for you.

I agree with those who say to cancel the order. As some have said, you don't want to offend your wife. She bought you that press with the best of intentions and her happiness means more to you than a piece of hardware. Many people successfully use Lee presses and are more than satisfied with them.

Now if you really get into reloading and decide you will stay with it, you can always buy a used press for a substantial discount off new. Single stage presses are usually very robust and rarely break so a used press isn't much of a risk and the experience you gain with the Lee will come in handy in helping you decide what you want in your next press.

For single stage I use one to decap and one to finish.

Keep both. If you're new to reloading you should start on the single stage.
