Depends on the powder. I use Titegroup for 9mm. I could quadruple charge and still have room left over.

However on a SS or turret press where you are charging the case in a separate operation with a powder like titegroup or clays it is easy for a loader to doublecharge and never notice it at all, especially if doing batches of 50 or 100 at a time. All it takes is a distraction or interruption, and pouring a second charge over the first thinking it was the next in line instead of the one you just filled.
uhhh..that's why you review all the cases in the loading block after charging and before starting seating.

I'd guess the vast majority of real kabooms are either WRONG powder or barrel obstruction (squib, etc.).

Yeap, and yet doublecharges still happen...

I agree with the wrong powder thing. But I have seen a near kaboom when a loader confused his CFEpistol load data for Titegroup data and loaded 4.8gr of TG in a 9mm instead of 3.2gr of TG. Not even sure how the gun did not break in half, because the very first one he lit off was not a nice load.
Fear is the spare change that will keep you broke

Trailboss powders are awesome at preventing a double charge.

            Really?

I use 115gr plated or jacketed. At that weight, it's around 4.5g starting 4.8 gr. Max without going into +p territory. this is one charge
this is what one charge looks like
            this is another charge.
this is what a double charge of titegroup looks like. WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO PUT THE BULLET?

Unless you were extremely negligent, or created a compressed load on purpose - you COULD SEE that the case is filled.

            Thank you

That would be a compressed charge. And, it seems the bullet would still fit. I've either been lucky or good, because to me double charges are internet fodder - never experienced one. I hope it stays that way and I'll be triple checking now even more.
