Currently I have an old solid wood desk someone gave me for free with a piece of 1" plywood screwed to the top in the gun room.
In my bedroom closet I still have a 2 foot piece I cut off the bottom of a solid exterior door nailed to (2) 2"x2" runners nailed into the studs of one side of my closet, with the other piece of the 2x2 in the unsupported corner as a leg.
It took about as long to nail it in as it took me to type it. I used that for years until I acquired the desk. The piece of the door is 1 3/4" thick and very solid.
What I liked about the bedroom setup when I was using it was that I could close the closet door and it looked just like a normal bedroom to any guest who might happen to stop by.
I lost half of my closet space though, and some of my ties got wrinkled.
