Need info about the 45 Hornady bullet.

I recently purchased a lot of 500 Hornady bullets through Midway and setteled down reloading yesterday. The Hornady 7th edition reloading handbook lists the 45 auto rim as 0.451 and when measured it was close but they forget to mention the lip on the bottom of the bullet that looks like settelment of copper coating thus I have around 150 bullets out of the 500 batch that I guess I will have to shave to get to fit in the caseings. I have included a few photos and the bullets in the box are the waste.

eek of course i would run them through a lee .452 sizer

also make sure you are belling(expanding the mouth) the cases

and save the primers from those wrecked cases

Looks to me like you need to bell your case mouths more. You're shaving the jackets while seating the bullets, and even collapsing the case necks in the worst cases.

Make sure your caliper is zeroed first. If the bullets are .450 unless your barrel is undersized I wouldn't expect much in the way of accuracy.

As previously stated, you need to expand the case mouth.

Also, judging by your pictures it looks like you are crimping the loads. What type of crimp and how much?

Looks to me like you are actually completely ****ing up by not properly flaring the case mouths. There's no problem with the bullets.
You need to flare straight-walled pistol brass.

I agree, Hornady TMJ 45 bullets are top notch. +1, rayra

Bell the case a little more.

Am I missing something here? Do your redding dies have a powder die? Powder dies should expand the case mouth when you press the lever. Check the instructions to see how deep you need to screw in the dies. For my lee powder dies you need to screw it in all the way until it touches the shellplate then in another half a turn.

Wait, I'm looking at your picture and it looks like youre charging your cases off the press. That's probably why you're forgetting to bell the case mouth.

If you bought your dies as a set, you should have gotten some sort of powder die. This die is tapered at the end and should expand the case mouth a little to let your bullets be seated without crushing the brass.

                    If it didn't come as a set, I suggest buying a Lee powder-through-expander die for 45ACP $9.99:

If you describe what dies you have and what each one does, I'm sure we can tell you which die is supposed to bell / expand the case mouth.

I use the redding pro-series Ti- Carbide 45 ACP, AR . Which is the incorrect set so I just ordered a redding 88189 set on e-bay. The set I have doesn't have a case expander.
