    Case stuck in die

So in light of the current shortage, I order 1000 .223 Remington cases from Brassman and a crimp remover from Midway and start in. I clean the cases and lube them, but 75 cases into the run I get a case which gets stuck in the die. The head pulls off the shellholder. WTF. I order a stuck case remover. Is this common with .223? I use CLP on it. Still no movement. In 40+ years of reloading this has never happened to me.

Is this common with .223? I'm going to try to back the decapping rod out of the case and die and use the remover. Any other ideas?

Did you lube the case before resizing?

Bottlenecked brass needs to be lubed. Even with carbide dies.

The OP said he used CLP. Try using a little more. I had it happened to me once when I first started reloading but that is because I failed to use the lube. Ever since I learned my lesson. I ended up sending the die back to dillon and they sent me a new one.

Seems to me that CLP is not the best thing to use for Case lube. He really ought to get some hornady oneshot or Dillon case lube.

Using more CLP may just result in some nasty hydraulic case dents.

Never happened to me. I use Frankford Arsenal lube on mine. So far so good

I found that hornady one shot did not work well on .223. It does work well on pistol brass. I now use dillon spray lube for .223 and I never have stuck cases. I do however have to tumble the brass after sizing.

You just got a soft case or one that had the start of head separation.

It may be prudent to check the other cases for that little shiny ring.

When sizing, if you feel the case drag you need more lube.

CLP is not case lube. Case lube is case lube.

OP said he lubed the cases. I think stuck cases, from what I've read, is just part of rifle caliber reloading.

It's just a part of FAILING at rifle reloading. Happens to lots of people. And after the first time you go buy a Stuck Case Extractor Tool so it's handy for the second time you do it.

same thing just happened to me with an rcbs .223 die. I tried tapping it out with the primer punch dealy and only ended up bending the threaded screw. I'm ordering case lube with my new set of dies... and a case puller just in case lol.

I tried using a screw driver once and wasted a die.
