    Nosler Custom Competition 80g...

So I picked up a box of these, primarily because the price was too good to pass on. I am building a AR with a 1:8 20" barrel and thought these may work well for intermediate distance. Does anyone have any experience with these? I saw some online who state they did OK at magazine length. Just curious. After making this thread, I did just see the thread for the IMR 8208 XBR powder. I do have IMR 4064, H355, and BLC2 on hand. Will probably try with those.

I've shot a fair few of them. They are fine to 600 yards. I know a few people shooting 4064 in the AR but none who also shoot the Nosler 80gr.

You can fit them mag length and I shot one OK group with them at 300 yards loaded to mag length but it wasn't a great group so I don't do it anymore.

Nosler 80s with 0.025" jump with IMR 4064 works very well.

For mag length ammo, have used 77 SMK, Nosler 77s, or Hornady 75s with IMR 4064.

A2 upper is WOA and gets a new barrel after 3k rounds.

For the same cost or couple cents less try the Hornady 80gr Amax.In my opinion the Amax is the better bullet and will shoot inside of the Nosler at 600 by 1min at the very least.
        Keep it simple!

Here is my load data, use at your own risk:

80 grain Nosler Custom Competition Bullet (tumbled in HBN)
          Winchester NT 5.56 Brass
Tula Small Rifle Magnum (KVB-556M) Primer
          2.295" COL
          23.5 grains Ramshot TAC
          2600 fps out of 20" AR-15 Barrels

I worked up this load at Angeles these past two weeks. All loads grouped like crap, until I took the MagnetoSpeed off the barrel.

Once I took the chrono off the barrel, I got about 1" groups from a 20" BCM 1:8" Twist SS410 barreled upper and about 0.75" groups from a 20" WOA 1:7" Twist Service Rifle upper, all at 100 yards.

That's right, I got better groups from the upper with iron sights than from the upper with a 14X scope. I think the WOA's 223 Wylde chamber just works better than the BCM's "5.56 NATO Match USMC SAM-R Chamber", whatever that means.

The BCM upper groups better with 77 grain bullets, with which they group about 0.75" at 100 yards.

The SAM-R chamber is just a CLE chamber, folks I've talked to who run CLE chambers noted that the mag length 77s run tighter. Haven't used a CLE since my dies are set for wylde.

YES! So I am NOT the only one who experienced this...

I think I will just shoot out the BCM barrel on 77s, I reckon it'll last for 4,000 rounds, since I don't load them very hot and the SS410 steel is supposed to be a little tougher than 416R.

Then I will replace it with a WOA Service Rifle Barrel. Shoots great, and it's only $225.

Based on your chamber and if you have Varget, 24.5 grains is the ticket for 75/77 grainers and 80s as well.

It's not a better or worse chamber you just have to work the seating depth and you got lucky on the other one.
