This is a testament to the quality and constancy of Nosler bullets.
This past weekend I mounted a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40 scope on my trusty old Winchester Model 54 30-06 and sighted it in at 100 yards. I started out with the Nosler 165 gr Ballistic Tip to get close then switched to the Nosler 165 gr Accubond to finalize which is what I currently hunt with (until 2019
). Even though these two bullets look close to the same, internally they are different and the AB is a boat-tail design.
With a new scope I always over compensate the first adjustment to check the accuracy of the "clicks", so that's the first 4 shots in the photo. Shot 5 was a down adjustment only and then I switched to the Accubonds. Two clicks both right and up and the Accubonds picked right up where the Ballistic Tips left off. This is where the
came in. Even though these two bullets are loaded identically and shoot virtually the same AFPS, for whatever reason I expected the Accubond to shoot higher. I was very happy to see that they shoot the same and that I can interchange them if needed.
IMHO, it takes superior manufacturing techniques to take two different bullets for a given caliber and have them perform like this. Right On Nosler!
