I would start with 5 grains and Chrono.

Those are what I shoot in my .45 Colt, I wouldn't load them for my 1911.

5gn is a hot load in 45acp. The general range for a 250gn projectile in a 45acp is 4.3-5 gns. A chrono s not the best thing to use to rate how the load is, because speed is not the issue it is pressure. The pressure will climb quick with this load.

I shoot 250 grain jacketed bullets with Bullseye 4.4 to 5.2 max grains. If you have Unique then 5.8 to 6.1 max. These loads put you in about 825 fps territory. They are not fast (or barn burners). Yes, they are slightly oversized but should be fine in your gun as well. My gun is a SA Loaded 1911. I don't shoot them on a regular basis but periodically.

Yes 250gr bullets .452 dia are made for the 45Long Colt or 454Casull/460S&W(if very hard cast) and not really for the 45ACP which uses a .451 bullet. I am speaking about jacketed bullets as I have not used lead bullets in my 45ACP pistols. Usually the lead bullets are closer to 200 grs and are .452 dia
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I almost did this, but I opted to sell the bullets instead and get some 230s. Problem solved.

NRA has data for 45 acp up to and including 300 grain bullets.

If I had a S&W revolver in 45 acp, I would only shoot 300 grain bullets in it.

Anyways, Consider trying bluedot. It's the only powder listed for 300 grain, so I believe it will be good for heavy-for-caliber bullets in 45 acp.

Other than that, I'd be checking the hodgdon website, and extrapolate a smidge for the 230 grian load data if they had none for 250.

Other than that, PM me so I don't forget (I will), and I can check my NRA reloading guide later tonight for 250 grain recipes for 45 acp. If you are interested.
