Barnes TTSX - wow these are LONG

just ran out of 308 WIN MRX's (only thing in stock when i needed some last year) so decided to try the TTSX's since they are 1/2 the price. the 168's are so long that i started getting compressed loads almost right away with H4895. accuracy was not very good.

I've never seen a chart that shows relative powder density (burn rates yes) except for some info in the Barnes reloading manual that gives "% load density" which is a help, but the velocites are different so they are not apples to apples. I am loading a new batch with BLC(2) and TAC since they appear to be more dense and that is what I have but what is everyone else using?

How much powder were you using? I load 168 barnes TTSX's in 308 with
41.5 gr of IMR4895 without problems. Accuracy is OK...for hunting ammo (2"-2.5" at 100 yards in a 700P).

I've been wanting to try the Nosler e-tips to hopefully get a little better accuracy.

i loaded up to 43 grains, which is near high end of range. at 40 which is low end i even had some compression at this level. all the rounds fired fine and there were no signs of high pressure, just accuracy was 2-3" @100 yd versus .65" when i used the MRX's

i will be trying the e-tips and hornady ones when they come out also.

I load the 300 grain TSX in my 375 H&H and with some powder loads I have to compress the powder half of an inch. My best loads will shoot under half an inch at 100 yards.

wow 1/2 inch...surprised your cases don't bulge out or bullets slowly slide out!

If you email the barnes people, they will send you a lot of load data, lots more than they have on their website. This info should help you out, they also mark the most accurate loads.

There's a lot of air space using extruded powders and I use the Lee Factory Crimp die. I've had rounds in the magazine for 5 or 6 shots and have never seen the bullets creep forward under recoil, even in my 375 H&H.
