I don't forsee the price of ammo going down. Ever. It's probably going to go up. I would start stocking up on reloading supplies...

I think you can expect an increase in both state and federal taxes to gooble up any possible reduction in prices --- Quite possibly an increase in price plus increased taxes -- The anti-gun crowd sees this as easier methos of gun control than passing overly restrictive legislation -- my ha-penny

First it was our boys going over to the Middle East, then it was the high prices of copper and lead, and now it's the Obama craze. There will always be something.

Compared to other things, most ammo has remained remarkably stable. 9mm has only increased a buck or two in the last 10 years. I recently purchased several thousand 9mm Blazer for $7.49/50! .22 and shotgun ammo is up a bit, and centerfire rifle has been the biggest increase, but still less than 20%.

A few years ago, I standardized on just a few calibers and began to stockpile when good deals popped up. I gave it some thought and realized that I shot 9mm quite often, and it has always been one of the less expensive rounds. Next was .45, and .357/.38 was next.

Of course, .22LR is always handy. My main rifle calibers, although consumed at a far slower rate were .223, 7Mag and .30-06. Later, 17HMR came into the picture. There are a few others that are shot little, but still needed ammo from time to time, like .44 Mag, 22/250 and .243.

If you are constantly vigilant for deals, and pick up a few boxes when you can afford it, you can build up quite a supply. I think prices will remain stable, but we should buy when we can, while we can!

              9mm used to be $12 / 100 at walmart a year ago, but it's at $16 - $20 / 100 now - if you can find it. That's more than a dollar increase in just a year's time.

assuming obama doesn't actually ban anything, when gun sales stabalize, ammo prices will go down because metal prices have gone down. and, this is just a shot in the dark, if obama does ban anything (lets face it, he'll ban AKs and ARs), then .223 and 7.62x39 will go down because at first, there will be a huge demand for the two rounds, then, the companies will over produce, and then everyone will have too much, and then the companies are going to need to lower the prices to get people just to buy it.

                (I could be wrong)
kinda long and confusing, but thats you're fault for asking the question

Actually, with your supply vs. demand argument with the banning, the prices will first go up because of the spike in demand that the supply won't match and then the second part will depend on if manufacturers increase manufacturing capacity. Over production will be no problem, they'll just scale back what the current production is and sell off what they've already produced. But if they permanently increase manufacturing capacity (which is very unlikely), then they would have to drop prices should demand drop.

Not for nothing but in 98 I used to get 100 9mm reloads for $5 and factory ammo for $8-$10... prices are horrendous nowadays.
I'm still buying rounds, but trying to cut my own usage.

                      Reminds me of this quote

Same thing that happend with gasoline prices, they've PLUMMETED since consumtion went down. We, and only We can control the free market, one person at a time.
