I have had recent discussions (both in person and online) which lead me to believe that there is an increased demand for good, "professional" reloading classes/seminars/etc in CA (perhaps prompted by the recently passed anti-gun laws). I have taught occasional, small handloading classes using my own developed curriculum that turned out very well and thought I'd start to offer this to a wider audience.
I have a website that will be going up very soon with many details, but I thought I'd post here and get some initial feedback from those of you who may be interested.
My plan is to offer a set of two classes, back to back, on a weekend day. The set of classes would include:
A) a morning "Introduction to Reloading" class geared towards beginners that covers: handloading principles and theory, equipment selection and setup, how to work with load data and recipes, step-by-step loading walkthrough, and ending with some actual loading.
and B) an afternoon "Continuation" course which would build on the intro course, but introduce new considerations, techniques, and equipment. This afternoon class would also involve much more load development and actual loading.
Classes will include setup and use of single, turret and progressive presses from several manufacturers. So, students will be able to make a well informed decision on what type of equipment to buy, if they are in the market for a press.
I am offering these as separate classes as, in my experience, there may be some people that are generally familiar with reloading but are perhaps rusty or are unsure in a few specific areas, and just need some measure of extra enrichment in their knowledge. These people could hop right into the afternoon course.
I am thinking of pricing each class at around $100/each, but this would include ALL components (brass, primers, powder, bullets), equipment, MTM boxes, supplies, etc. So, for around $200, you would get an all day class, course materials and would make and take home several boxes worth of ammunition.
As of right now, it looks like I'll be offering classes starting near the end of this month and continuing either one or two weekends per month, depending on demand.
