Eld's no longer have the translucent ballistic tip

If you order ELD's don't be surprised if the ballistic tips look different. They are no longer translucent like the original ELD's.

I called Hornady and the following was explained to me:

Due to possible litigation, the translucent tips that Hornady was producing could violate another manufactures copy right.

The Ballistic tips now manufactured are the same but no longer have the translucent tip the earlier ELD's had. The new tip is the same component just more dye added to remove the translucent effect.

Maybe that's why Midway cleared out a bunch of 285g 338 ELD-X at a ridiculous price.

I picked up 1,000... should last me awhile.
