357 Rifle Load

I want to load the 357 for the rifle.
I've seen several threads with the following powders listed
(Unique - 231 - 2400 - H110).
I want to shoot cast target (lower vel) and also work up a good stout deer/pig hunting loads with a jacket soft point.
Will one powder do both well. I'm new to reloading and have read that unique is a dirty bird in the mess it leaves?
Any thoughts on the powders and mag primers not being needed for 357? Thanks. -gary

Two different applications require two different powders for best performance.

Low velocity, cast bullet loads: Pretty much any fast burning pistol powder but I like Trailboss since it really fills up the case and is impossible to double-charge.

High velocity, jacketed bullet loads: H110/W296, AA9 with magnum primers.

Those high velocity loads will turn a 357Mag from carbine into something within spitting distance of a 30WCF. (180gr@2000fps)

If this is a Marlin with a Micro-Groove barrel, you may have to stick with a jacketed bullets.

Thanks, I was a board member on Paco's leverguns.com years ago and didn't reload at the time.
What I was looking for was what persons here were using for powders now since powders have chaged from what I hearing. I have an older Speer #12 that I've looked thru, but never attempted to reload. I thinking now (after the election) would be a great time to start before being backdoored on taxes and hasmat fee's.

And I"ll keep the cast under 800-900 fps with the lead in the micro Marlin.

I have a Marlin 1894S in .41 Magnum. I called Marlin and they said do not use lead in the micro-groove barrel. Those who have more reloading experience may have better first hand knowledge.
