When did they start offering headed pin de-capping dies and straight needle dies?

Wanna say early 2000s they went to the headed pin.i started reloading in 97/98 and dies i got then had the straight needle pins.

I found out when i got dies for a new caliber then broke a pin then thought no prob got another then it was oh crap dont work.

I started back in the 70s. Funny thing is the only local spot is Turners and all they carry are the straight pins. Ever have a straight pin stick in a case?

Prolly mid to late 80s was the transition from needle decap pins and I think that is also the time RCBS moved from the knurled aluminum lock rings with lead as thread buffer to the steel with soft brass lock ring.

I have a '79 FL die set with needle pins, and an '89 FL die set with the tent spike/headed pin.
