Getting into reloading. Right now reading and ordering for the stuff. i have approx 4K of .223 brass. A good mix of mfg's. Most are stamped LC etc. Are the LC type casing have crimped primer pockets? If so what needs to be prep work needs to be done before roading a new primmer in? and what tools do I need to buy to rework the primmer pockets

The primer pockets need to be swagged. They have reamers but for me they only work about 70% of the time. RCBS makes a set that goes in a single stage press and it works great. I'll try to find a link for it. Here is a good picture of it.

RCBS 9495 Primer Pocket Swager Combo RCBS Bullet Casting Tools/Accessories Melting lead and casting lead objects along with lubricants for bullets are the primary functions of these tools and accessor

It works great and it goes pretty quick once you figure out the best way to do it.

Same thing. I posted the other link because it had a better picture. It should work perfect with your Rock Chucker.

I just punch them out manually and use a chamfer tool to remove the ridge
            on the pocket.

Is there a tool that you can add on to the Dillon XL650? I read that you can use dies from other brands, so could I use this one? Or it would just be a stand alone tool? Sorry for my newb questions, here is my last one. The Dillon XL650 has 5 stages, but dies come in a set of three, so the empty stations, you would use for a swagger and a crimper? My reloading books are on order from midway. Thanks for the help.

The swagger has to be used on a single stage press. I have a Dillon 550b so I had to buy a single stage press to use it. I now use the single stage press for several different things. You could add a crimper in one of the stations, Lee makes good inexpensive crimp dies if you don't already have one. But if you have a set of three dies one is probably a crimp die.

i use a counter sink bit but like another person said it only works about 85-90% for me then i'll get the occasional non seating mushed primer and at 3 cents it makes me sad

I use the Dillon Swager for anyything but 9mm and 223 as I load those on a 1050 and the 1050 has a swager built into the press.

Randall, you ever run mixed brands of crimped cases thru the 1050 and find the variation in web thicknesses between brands an issue, or do you separate by brand first??

I always mix headstamps and I sometimes feel one that had a thicker base because it took a little more force to swage.
I don't lose any sleep over it.
There's a fine-line where you get the swage adjustment just right to swage all cases enough, yet without the thick based ones causing any grief.

Anyone know if the RCBS primer pocket swager combo will work in a Lee hand press? Or do you need something bench mounted?
