Using a Lee Case Length Gauge for trimming?

Clean, lube, size, clean and trim my rifle brass. That is not uncomfortable for me. I usually check my case length every few cases after trimming and chamfering. I recently noted that my 223s were shrinking. So I went to a LGS and got a replacement.

It does look like your pin has worn down. However, note that when you do measure the length of the gauge, you need to measure from above where the threads end to the tip of the pin. The effective length is not the overall length of the gauge, as you appear to be measuring with your calipers.

Thanks for sharing this. I always wondered how long this kind of Lee tool would hold up. Still, they are so inexpensive I don't think it's all that disappointing. Just something to be aware of and monitored.

^^^^ I'd give that a try too. After all the packaging says it will maintain accuracy "forever".

I reload rifle cases quite a bit from 223,308, and 7mm using the same tools for over 5 years and have not experienced what i see in the pics. I appreciate you sharing. Im going to mic them now just to double check. I can state my cases have all been trimmed to spec all this time. I use a drill mounted on a bench and use the lee case holders on the chuck.
